Young Thugs Recording Experience

From recording Sunday Church bands to BBC York live sessions, my experience at Young Thugs studio is broad.

I first discovered Young Thugs Studio after my band, needlework, recorded there. I began volunteering at Young Thugs in around October 2024 where I was first taught how to use ProTools, how to use their collection of microphones and Cadac J series mixing board.

As well as setting up and recording bands, I work elsewhere too: helping with RSL exams, welcoming exam candidates in and out.

A great thing about Young Thugs is the range of genres and styles I'm being taught how to record.

I recently volunteered at a 'Welcome to the North' event - a collaboration between the studio and BBC York.

On this day, I helped set up and record a range of artists and styles such as soft pop music from Scott Quinn to hardcore hip-hop/punk band Sleuth Gang. I lent gear like my guitar to be recorded, helped set up and mic the gear. And most usefully, it helped me network, chatting to BBC presenter Jericho Keys, exchanging info, as well as having useful conversations with the artists.

Some stand-out artists I've helped record are Cucamaras, Sandra's Wedding, & Too Many Ghosts.

Once their sessions they've recorded have been released I'll attach them to this page.

This connection has opened up further opportunities including being booked as a assistant sound technician at the Beat-Herder festival, 2025.
