Songwriting

I'm currently working on writing neo-soul/bedroom-pop music. This is inspired by artists from 70s legend Gene Harris, to Sault and Men I Trust. This project is really fun to make, as most sounds I use are from a Yamaha DX21, and proper hardware, and a hands-on approach is really the most enjoyable thing for me.

Unlike my other projects, almost all the sounds on this song are live instruments, or hardware (mainly my Yamaha DX21). The bass I used was wrapped with tissue in the bridge, and with a pick (which felt very unnatural for me!). My snare has a towel on it to get that really muted sound, and I spent ages messing with a multiband compressor to get the drums sounding as 'dead' as possible.
